General Primary President LaVern Parmley asked her board to come up with ideas for a symbol to assist seven year old children in learning the teachings of Jesus in 1970 -- the result was the CTR ring with it's familiar logo and shield.
The little ring with the green shield has become a symbol for LDS Primary classes everywhere. Through the years the initials C.T.R. have also become a special reminder to teens and adults to "Choose the Right".
